Welcome Note

Dear Colleagues,

The organizing committee invites you to the meeting of the working group “Biological control of fungal and bacterial plant pathogens” in Berlin (Germany). It is our great pleasure to welcome you on this occasion at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.

The environmentally friendly control of plant diseases is a major topic in agriculture and horticulture. Because of the progress in microbiology within the last decades and their importance for biological control the theme of the workshop will focus on “Biocontrol and Microbial Ecology”. We need a better understanding of factors influencing biological control of plant disease at field scale in praxis. Hence, we will give attention to research which discusses especially microbial ecological aspects. However, all contributions relating to biological control of plant diseases are very welcome.

From 12–15 September 2016 you can expect an interesting scientific program that refl ects the different aspects of biocontrol and microbial ecology. We wish to bring together students, experts, researchers and implementers of diseases biocontrol and Integrated Pest Management as well as microbiologists to discuss potential improvements of biocontrol and integrated control. We would like to encourage young scientists to present their latest results to a wider audience and to exchange ideas.

Presentations will be carried out orally or as posters, in English; an ample amount of time will be devoted to discussions. As usually done, we expect to publish short papers of the presentations in the frame of the IOBC-WPRS Bulletin.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Berlin in the frame of an active meeting with fruitful scientifi c exchange in the field of biocontrol and microbial ecology.

Yours,
